Create your very own Granny Square in Crochet for Beginners.

Time: Saturday 10am
Location: Maylands
Duration: 3 hours

If youíre looking for a new hobby and are in a creative mood, crochet is just the thing for you. Learn how to wield a crochet hook and create something special in these classes for absolute beginners.

Each Crochet for Beginners class is designed for those who have had little to no experience with a crochet hook, or those who have used a crochet hook a little and would like to build on their basic crochet knowledge.

Throughout the class, your host will go through the basic crochet stitches, such as double crochet, treble crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch, their abbreviations and how to change colours while crocheting in the round. Learning the basic stitches will allow you to continue your crochet journey after the class.

As you start on your own Granny Square, the crochet host is there to help when you get stuck and assist as you practice your new skills.

For the class you will use acrylic yarn to begin your crochet journey, learning the foundations of creating a granny square. Many granny squares can be joined together to create a blanket, or join just a few together to create a tea cosy.

Class sizes are kept small so each participant will have a chance to interact with the host on a one-to-one basis. Participants will be provided with all the equipment on the day, including an aluminium crochet hook, sample patterns, and appropriate yarn.

A complimentary standard-size non-alcoholic beverage is included as part of the class price.

Come along to a Crochet for Beginners class and learn the beginning steps of a versatile and fun lifelong skill.

I thought it was very good however there was too much to learn in the time provided. We would have been better off sticking to the basic stitches without worrying about the granny square. There just wasnít enough time and a couple of the participants didnít even try that as they were not confident with the basics.

Very enjoyable, learnt the basics though did not quite make as much progress as expected.

Very enjoyable, Cheryl gave us clear instructions on how to crochet and was more than happy to repeat things when I didn't "get it". I was happy we had the time to master the basics before we tried to make anything. I'm looking forward to attending another class to expand on my skills.

We really enjoyed the friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Cheryl was a great teacher...demonstrating and explaining the how and why of crochet. We both came away enthused and eager to do another class...maybe intermediate level,, to expand our knowledge.
